DRIVING ON CRETE
Driving License
For renting a car, you will need to have a full driving license for at least two years. There is often a minimum age requirement (between 21 to 25 years old).

Road Rules
Driving on Crete is on the right hand side of the road. By law, wearing seat belts is compulsory and motorbikes and scooter drivers must wear crash helmets. The speed limit on the National highways is 90km per hour for cars, 70 km per hour for other vehicles. On country roads the speed limit is 70 km per hour and in towns and cities it is 50 km per hour. Road signs follow normal European conventions and the places names are usually given in Latin and Greek alphabet. Please observe parking restrictions as illegal parking can result in a ticket fine. Take care when driving, as many roads have potholes or uneven surfaces.
Drinking and driving
Alcohol can have serious effects on judgment and driving ability. There are severe penalties for driving after alcohol consumption.
Mobile Phones
It is forbidden by law to use a mobile phone while driving.

GETTING TO CRETE
There are two ways to get to Crete either by air or by sea. There are two international airports in the island. The bigger is located in Heraklion and the smaller in Chania and there is also a small domestic airport in Sitia. The two major airports are connected with the international airport of Athens through 45-minute flights and with the most of international airports in Greece. Also, there are many regular or charter flights organized to and from many European countries and Cyprous during the tourist season from early of April to the end of October.
There are two very important ports in Crete, the port of Heraklion and the port of Chania in Souda. Moreover, there are three smaller ports, in Rethymnon, Sitia and Kastelli. All the ports are connected with the central Creece mainly through the port of Piraeus. There is also connection with various Greek islands.
